Course Description:

This course explores the dynamics of substance abuse counseling this course provides understanding of the addictive personality. The course provides information for assessment and treatment of the chemically dependent person. The effects of substance abuse on families are examined. This course reviews and familiarizes one with an example of a  12 Step Christian program.

Course Goals and Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students will:

1        Have a working knowledge of some common problems which cause persons to seek counseling.

2        Students will be able to identify certain crisis situations and address the crisis from a Christian perspective.

3        Make a decision regarding further specialized training in the Christian counseling field.

4        Establish personal limits for the development of a counseling relationship

5        Develop some skills in applying  basic Christian Counseling

6        Begin to see the dynamics of being in professional-therapeutic relationships with those receiving counseling.
