Course Description:
This course provides a survey of the values, major events and contributions of modern art. Key topics include the development of modern art theories, recent developments in painting and sculpture and use of modern media in the visual arts

Course Goals and Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students will:
1. Better understand the development of artistic expression in the modern period.
2. Understand how historical art and artistic innovations have influenced modern art works;
3. Be able to articulate the spiritual context of an artistic creation;
4. Understand how the political climate of a given period influences its artistic expressions;
5. Understand how modern artists create emotional expressions in their works that result in responsive chords in audiences;
6. Understand the role of technology, especially digital, in modern and emerging art.
