Course Description:

This course presents the historical development of Christian and Gospel music from its early foundations in America and throughout the 20th century.  Developments are also traced from a spiritual and cultural perspective.

Course Goals and Objectives:

The purposes of this course will:

1. Provide a historical foundation of Christian/Gospel music genres.

2. Examine the influence of secularism in Christian/Gospel music.

3. Investigate the impact of Christian/Gospel music in popular culture.

4. Provide a background for the use of recording technology beginning in the 20th Century.
