Assignments for this course take the form of written summaries, research, and analysis. They are designed to help us work through the course objectives, while keeping a focus on our spiritural growth through conceptual learning.

For each assignment, please develop a document and submit it to me in either Microsoft Word, RTF (rich text format), or HTML format (your word processing software should permit you to do a "save as" and choose either of those formats).

Objective: Understand the characteristics needed in for effective youth ministry;

Comments: The Effective Youth Minister

Clearly, the most important objective of this course is to help us become effective in the role of youth ministry.

Understanding the context of youth ministry (the social environment), the challenges of youth ministry, and the opportunities in youth ministry are important. However, understanding the hands-on characteristics of that indicate an effective youth ministry effort is probably our most important topic.

DIY Youth Ministry

The challenge, then, is to get a handle on the characteristics of an effective youth minister, in an age when “effective” is a shifting and difficult term to even define.

We might even contend that “effective” is a moving target, a standard that changes with each assessment.

Therefore, our best approach is probably to study effective youth pastors and ministries, rather than pontificate on the ephemeral characteristics of an “effective” youth pastor.
