LECTURE

This course is very challenging and this is just an introduction to the field of Addiction counseling. Remember that the drug world is dominated by the power of darkness. Secular programs address the many issues of addiction from a scientific perspective. Those of us who understand the Spiritual world  are aware that we are Spirit , Soul and Body. Therefore in order to address the recovery process the spiritual component must be addressed.  As an avenue of addressing the Spiritual component we are utilizing the Rapha twelve step program.   The Bible declares " and be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess: but be filled with the Spirit" Ephesian 5:18. The physiological aspect  of drug addiction is just one part of addressing this complex problem. The disease model is identified by Jellinek

Chart . See the attachment for the Jellinek Chart..

In order to help an Alcoholic/ chemically dependent person we must first learn the facts about alcoholism and chemical dependence. In the family relationship it is important not to blame, control, or rescue  the chemically dependent person. The goal is to separate the problem, who's problem is it? Recognizing that # 1only the alcoholic/ chemically dependent person can do anything about the problem.  The decision to change or stop the behavior  belongs to the chemically dependent person.  The family or friends reaction and feelings about the drinking and drug behavior  can change. Certainly the problem of chemically dependency or alcholism has an affect on the family. But the place to start is on each individual self.  The family must take care of themselves, be quick to pray and develop support systems.
