BibleGateway.com  (www.biblegateway.com) is a free service for reading and researching Scripture online--all in the language or translation of your choice (which includes the Bible in 50 different versions as well as in 35 different languages).  It provides advanced tools you can use to search the Bible by keywords or verse, as well as other tools to enhance your study of the Bible. 

E-Sword (www.e-sword.net) e-Sword is a free software package that offers multiple bible translations, commentaries, and other biblical resources. e-Sword is feature rich and user friendly with more capabilities than you would expect in a free software package.  This is a great resource for additional bible and bible-related sources. 

Materials may also be supplemented by additional readings.

Course Description

This course provides the practices, processes, and habits of effective public preaching. Key topics include presentation and communication skills, organizing a sermon, contemporaneous speaking, and connecting with an audience.

 Course Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, students will:  

1. Be exposed to examples of excellent preaching;

2. Understand the priorities and processes of sermon topic choice;

3. Understand the process of sermon preparation;

4. Be exposed to communication principles that foster audience connection;

5. Have had the opportunity to preach contemporaneously;

6. Have had the opportunity to deliver a formal sermon.

                                                                              

Course Policies

Attendance
This is a 90-day course. Its requirements include assignments and a final paper which you will complete and submit via the Internet.  You will also engage in discussion of course material, which will enable you to have regular contact with your instructor and other classmates.

Someone will be available for you to answer any questions, engage in discussion and provide assistance as needed.

Your assignments should be submitted as file attachments in either Microsoft Word or HTML format. Each assignment will be evaluated, graded, and returned with feedback. Values for each assignment and the final paper/project are provided in the grade components below.

Time Management
Please be sure to manage your time for your assignments so that you have adequate time to complete your work over the 90-day period.

Communication


We will look at your assignments when they come in and will let you know if there is a problem. We will be grading them as a whole so we will send you a confirmation of receipt

of your assignments and will comment generally only if there is a problem. When you have

completed your last assignment please inform us that this is your final assignment and we will

send you a grade report within a few business days. Once received you can register for the next course on your degree plan.

Evaluation Material

Assignments and Tests
There are 6 written assignments, plus a final paper.

Grade Components

            There will be a total of 800 points for this course:

            720-800=A

            640-719=B

            560-639=C

            480-559=D

 479 and below=F 

Individual written assignments:  100pts. x 6=600pts. (75% of total)
Final paper:  200pts. (25% of total)

I would like to know more about you, your motivation for taking this course, perhaps your potential educational goals and what you hope to gain by the course. Once I receive your response, I will send one back to you.

After you complete and submit assignments, I will evaluate them and provide feedback. Once you have completed the course assignments and the final paper/project, your work for the course is done and your grade will be submitted.

NOTE:  ALL WRITING DONE FOR THIS COURSE MUST BE DONE ACCORDING TO MLA WRITING STANDARDS.  There are many websites available for reference.  I highly recommend you purchase the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers by Joseph Gibaldi which contains much information on college writing standards.
