Assignments for this course take the form of written summaries, research, and analysis. They are designed to help us work
through the course objectives, while keeping a focus on our spiritural growth through conceptual learning. For each assignment, please develop a document
and submit it to me in either Microsoft Word or HTML format (your word processing software should permit you to do a "save as" and choose either of those formats). Each assignment can be completed by completing the assigned bible reading, meditating on the meaning of the passage read, and making personal applications.
Assignment 1: Genesis Please read the book of Genesis and answer the following:Question One: Give a brief defense
of the story of creation as if trying to explain it to someone who believes in evolution and that there is no God. Question Two: Describe the character in the book of Genesis that you identify with the most
and give an explanation why. Assignment 2: Exodus Please read the book of Exodus and answer the following: Question One: Discuss the origin of the Ten Commandments and explain how they have impacted
our legal system today. Question Two: Discuss the similarity between the consequences reaped by the Isrealites when they disobeyed God through the Ten Commandments and the consequences reaped by
the people of the world today when they disobey the law. Assignment 3: Books of the Law & Joshua Question One: Please read/skim the books of Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy and Joshua in the
Bible before completing the following. Give comparisons of the rules that God gave to the Israelites in reference to food, disease and sex to the rules that most people in society concerning these issues follow
today. List any ramifications that you see in our society today due to the rules/guidelines followed concerning these issues. Question Two: Please read/skim the books of Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy
and Joshua in the Bible before completing the following. There are many instances where God has shown His faithfulness to the people of Israel. Name four and describe the circumstances leading up to when His
faithfulness was revealed and the results afterwards. Then do the same when naming four instances when God revealed His faithfulness in your own life. Assignment 4 Question One:
Please Skim The Books of I&II Samuel, I&II Kings, I&II Chronicles, Esther and Job before answering the following question. Make sure you get a thorough understanding of the themes of each book and
significance of the major characters. Compare times that you believe you have been tested/tempted by Satan to the charaters' experiences in these stories. How did you react and what did you learn from this time?Question Two: Please Skim The Books of I&II Samuel, I&II Kings, I&II Chronicles, Esther and Job before answering the following question. Make sure you get a thorough understanding of
the themes of each book and significance of the major characters. In our lives there are moments where God allows us to be tempted by Satan and/or tested by our circumstances. Profile three characters from
the assigned books that were tested, either by their circumstances or by Satan directly. Be sure to include their circumstances and their reactions before, during and after their time of testing.
Assignment 5 Psalms, Proverbs, Song of Solomon Please skim the assigned books, then answer the following:
Question One: Write a Psalm in the form of praise, confession or
worship to God. Please be sure to explain why you wrote this Psalm in this manner. This assignment has no boundaries, as it is really one for you to discover a new way to communicate with Abba.
Question Two: Read the Song of Solomon as if the Beloved were Christ. What feelings arise as you see Him in this light? Assignment 6 Hosea, Joel, Jonah, Micah, Question One:
Please read/skin the indicated books of the bible. In the book Hosea, God is very clear about His expectations for His people.
Write a description of what His expectations were and if they were not followed/obeyed what were the ramifications. Question Two: Pretend you are Jonah in the stomach of the whale and write a
journal entry describing your thoughts feelings and experiences there. Final Paper The Prophecies of Daniel Please summarize, in your own words, the prophetic dreams and events recorded by Daniel, the Prophet. Please do not use extra-biblical sources or
interpretations. Your summary may include your insight as to the meaning of the prophecies. |
