Assignments for this course take the form of written summaries, research, and analysis. They are designed to help us work through the course objectives, while keeping a focus on our spiritual growth through conceptual learning.

For each assignment, please develop a document and submit it to me in either Microsoft Word or HTML format (your word processing software should permit you to do a "save as" and choose either of those formats).  

Important: Ask the Holy Spirit to speak the truth of God to you each time you do an assignment.  ***Remember what you learned through either the Communion with God or Experiencing God Course.*** 

Assignment #1 

Reading: Spirit-Led Preaching

                    Introduction: What Spirit-Empowered Preaching Looks Like

                        Chapter 1: Missing in Action: Where is the Holy Spirit When We Preach?

                    Chapter 2: What is Spirit-Led Preaching?     

Length 5-6 pages           

Discuss what Spirit-Empowered Preaching Looks Like. Why are the so many messages preaching in churches that lack the power of the Holy Spirit? What is Spirit-Led Preaching and why is essential to our Christian life? 

Assignment #2 

Reading: Spirit-Led Preaching

                        Chapter 3: The Biblical Foundation for Spirit-Led Preaching: Paul,

                        the Prophets, and Jesus

                        Chapter 4: Recovering the Doctrine of Illumination for Spirit-Led

                        Preaching

                        Chapter 5: Word and Spirit Together: The Theological Foundation for

                        Spirit-Led Expository Preaching 

Length 5-6 pages         

How do Paul, the Prophets and Jesus demonstrate the foundation of Spirit-led preaching? Do you believe that we must return to the truth of Spirit-led preaching? Why or why not? How do the Word and Spirit work together for effective preaching? 

Assignment #3 

Reading: Spirit-Led Preaching

                        Chapter 6: The Spirit and the Preacher’s Sanctification

                        Chapter 7: The Spirit and the Sermon’s Preparation 

Length 5-6 pages           

Why is the sanctification process important with regards to Spirit-led preaching? In what ways does the Holy Spirit use the sanctification process in preparation for the delivery of His messages? 

Assignment #4 

Reading: Spirit-Led Preaching

                        Chapter 8: The Spirit and the Sermon’s Presentation

                        Chapter 9: The Holy Spirit and the Anointing: Understanding the

                        Spirit’s Empowerment for Preaching

Length 5-6 pages           

What part does the anointing of the Holy Spirit play in preaching? How does God reveal Himself through the anointing of the Holy Spirit? What is the result of the anointing in Spirit-led preaching?

Assignment #5 

Reading: Preaching with Passion

                        Introduction

                        Chapter 1: Preach with Spiritual Power

                        Chapter 2: Preach with Conviction

                        Chapter 3: Preach with Compassion

                        Chapter 4: Preach with Authority

Project: Listen to a message delivered by your pastor or any other preacher that you respect. Then, write down your observations about how the message was delivered. Now that you have a basic understanding of Spirit-led preaching, in what ways did the message and delivery of the message conform to God’s design of Spirit-led preaching? In what ways did the message and delivery not conform to God’s design? 

Assignment #6 

Reading: Preaching with Passion

                        Chapter 5: Preach with Urgency

                        Chapter 6: Preach with Brokenness

                        Chapter 7: Preach with the Whole Being

                        Chapter 8: Preach with Imagination 

Project: Create a sermon (message) that you feel God is putting on your heart.  You will want to consider the questions: Who is the message for and what is God wanting to say though this message? Use this as an opportunity to allow God to stir up the preacher in you and present His will to His people. 

Assignment #7 

Final Paper 

Length 12-15 pages

What has the Lord revealed to you in this course? Write a final paper summing up the knowledge, ideas and conclusions you reached during the course. Focus your paper and make sure it reflects, through references and comments, the work you have done and what you gained from your learning experience. Explain how you gained a greater understanding of Spirit-led preaching. Consider the question, how does Spirit-led preaching set people free in Christ?

  • Read: Smith Wigglesworth On the Anointing
  • Consider all the material you observed in this course and focus on those issues that are close to your heart.
  • Also, make use of the bibliography resources in your texts as they make excellent references for guided research.
  • Make use of the ACU Online Resource Center. There are many great resources there to help you.

Format:
Your paper should be 10-15 pages in length and your strategy documentation should be developed in good report form, using either MLA or APA style for all external resources.
