Analytical Questions - Assignment 2

2 Timothy, Chapter 1
1.) Why might Timothy have been ashamed of the things Paul's mentions?
2.) What problems arise from being afraid of what people think of you?
3.) How might a person's spiritual maturity and fruitfulness by affected by such fears?
4.) On the other hand what benefits can derive by not being afraid of what people think?
5.) What does Paul mean when he instructs Timothy to "stir up the gift of God" (verse 6)?

2 Timothy, Chapter 2
1.) Paul instructs Timothy to "instruct men of like mind. (verse 2)" Why was that important?
2.) Paul compares Timothy's duty to those of the soldier or athlete. Are the comparisons accurate?
3.) What does it mean for a Christian to get involved (be entangled) with civilian affairs?
4.) Paul also compares Timothy's duties with those of a farmer. How is that comparison appropriate?
5.) What is the difference between being "faithless" and "disowning" Christ (verses 12 & 13)?
6.) What does Paul mean when he mentions "quarreling about words" and other forms of "godless chatter"?
7.) What does Paul mean when he instructs Timothy to "properly" handle the Word of God? (verse 15)?
8.) In Timothy's case, what particular challenges would have been involved with "fleeing from youthful lusts" (verse 22)?
9.) Paul instructs Timothy that a servant of God must be "gentle" in correcting those who oppose him. Does this mean he should not endure disputes? Or that he should always?

2 Timothy, Chapter 3
1.) Paul mentions several characteristics of people in "the last days" (verses 1-5). Do you think he meant in his present day? Or in the "last" last days? Or something else?
2.) Why does godliness attract persecution?
3.) Does the tendency for godliness to attract persecution attract or repel people from the gospel?
4.) Paul instructs Timothy to identify with the godly. Why is this?
5.) How is it that scripture is "useful" for: teaching, rebuking, correcting, training in righteousness?

2 Timothy, Chapter 4
1.) What motivates people to "preach the word" (verse 2)?
2.) What does it mean to preach the word "in season and out of season" (verse 2)?
3.) Paul describes (verse 3 & 4) the kinds of people who have "itching ears." What kinds of things do people want to hear?
4.) What kinds of things do they not want to hear?
5.) What did Paul mean when he instructed Timothy to preach "sound doctrine?"
